Leading Ideas Hub 2 - Knowledge Exchange in Practice

During the event, we will hear from a range of knowledge exchange experts, who'll engage in dialogue to facilitate learning across the themes of relationships, equity, impact and learning from past experience. Topics we, and the inaugural Leading Ideas Hub (September 2022) attendees, felt are important to explore further. We anticipate the event will be of interest to anyone involved in knowledge exchange e.g., researchers, policy professionals and knowledge exchange practitioners. Delegates will be able to make connections and share ideas and experiences with professionals across Scotland’s

Insect farming as a future solution to sustainable agri-food systems in Scotland: A roadmap development

This report aims to present strategic plans and provide recommendations for utilising edible insects as animal feed to enhance sustainable agri-food systems in Scotland.

Pack your bags…and join us on Solarpunk Island

What? Solarpunk Island is a project Education Scotland and an organisation called Daydream Believers are currently facilitating for primary and secondary schools all over Scotland. Image: An aerial view of an island surrounding by blue water. The island is divided up into segments by an overlay. A boat sits on one of the sandy beaches. Together we create an immersive context for learning that imagines the learners embarking on a boat journey but ending up getting shipwrecked on a desert island. They then have to work out how to survive, create a neighbourhood using the 15 minute concept and

Potato DNA holds the key to cheaper chips

As concerns soar over world food cost hikes, the future of the Friday night chippie could be secured, thanks to new research into the humble potato by scientists at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) and international partners. Through Scottish expertise in plant sciences, the global food trade could be positively impacted. Potatoes are typically propagated by cloning, but the Holy Grail for potato cultivation has been the creation of a cultivar that can be generated by seed. True seed potatoes – also known as diploid potatoes – will need fewer pesticides and be more adaptive to the

The second session will offer

Botanics and Bioinformatics

Having visited the beautiful, serene landscapes of the Royal Botanic Garden, Edinburgh ( RBGE) many times as a visitor, I jumped at the chance to see ‘behind the scenes’, meeting some of the researchers who are carving their path in plant science research. I have to confess that my PhD is not at all related to plants – I am studying zoonotic bacterial pathogens and antibiotic resistance in wildlife and livestock at a neighbouring SEFARI partner, the Moredun Research Institute. However, the scientific work at RBGE includes genome projects, so I was keen to meet researchers that incorporate

Funding Call: SEFARI Fellowship with the Scottish Government on Supporting the Development of the Biodiversity Investment Plan

SEFARI Gateway is delighted to provide support for a new Fellowship with the Scottish Government on the estimated costs for delivering key Scottish Biodiversity Strategy activities. Background Scottish Biodiversity Strategy In 2023 the Scottish Government published a draft Scottish Biodiversity Strategy (SBS) which sets out a vision, outcomes, and priority actions to help Scotland accelerate and scale up land and sea-scape scale recovery to become a nature positive country by 2030 with substantially restored biodiversity by 2045.
