In order to respond to the demands of agile governance, mathematical models have become a dominant source of policy evidence and a standard decision-support tool during various stages of disease management at strategic, tactical and operational policy levels. Other types of normative (value-driven) exploratory approaches may better identify and control the influence of longer-term drivers of disease spread.

The showcase was targeted at families and school groups. Two of the four days were advertised to schools in areas of deprivation, and grants were available for transport costs in order to remove the main barrier to attendance.
As well as communicating the science UnEarthed was very much about showcasing best practice in public engagement. All proposals went through a selection process and the support provided by NERC at all stages was exceptional.
There is no doubt we live in an ever evolving and developing world. That brings huge challenges, and only by understanding our world better can we make the best informed decisions across policy and commercial spheres, and in our own lives. Data sets, comprising the ultimate sources of the facts on which to base analyses, are fundamental to how we understand the world around us.
The 11th edition of The Spark, SEFARI Gateway’s Newsletter, an update on the latest research developments from the Scottish Government’s Environment, Natural Resources and Agriculture (ENRA) strategic research programme.
So, how can this stalemate situation be overcome? Is there a way that young people can be given agency over their future careers? These are the questions that led to a group of people – from research, education and careers advice and with SEFARI Gateway support – to devise a novel method for positive action with young people and their potential future employers.
The project began following a previous year’s Royal Highland Show, where SEFARI colleagues such as the Rowett Institute, Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) and Moredun have presences at the event.
This year, 84 films were submitted to the festival of which just 13 were chosen to be screened as part of the final line-up, just showing how many amazing projects there are out there.
